With a few days left until Charlotte defends her NXT Title against Bayley, we decided to spend the upcoming days looking at how their feud has developed. Today, we are looking at the first few months of Charlotte’s WWE career, in which Bayley played a big role in helping her find her footing. Who would’ve thought these fierce foes were once friends?!
When Charlotte & Bayley first met, Bayley had only just debuted herself not too long ago. She was enamoured with everything around her and made it a mission to befriend everyone. Whilst talking to then-NXT GM, Dusty Rhodes, WWE Hall of Famer, Ric Flair, came into the room with his daughter- Charlotte. Ric said that his daughter is ready to carry on the legacy of the Flair family, and Bayley volunteered to be Charlotte’s first opponent. The hug-loving Diva was ecstatic that she would be facing the daughter of a WWE legend!
Bayley came out to the ring the next week, excited for her match against Charlotte. The daughter of the Nature Boy came out with her father supporting her. There was a lot of pressure for Charlotte to deliver a performance that would show that the Flair legacy was in safe hands. Charlotte showed a lot of styling and profiling against Bayley. Contrary to the expectation, Bayley gave Charlotte a good fight during the match. However, she bowed down to the queen & Charlotte gained her first win in this friendly competition.
For a while, we didn’t see and hear much from either Charlotte or Bayley, but it seemed like they had a growing friendship that unfolded while they were not on NXT. This was shown when they teamed up to take on the team known affectionately as Foxsana. Charlotte rallied support for Bayley, and despite some miscommunication, Charlotte and Bayley were able to pick up a victory! Bayley would then accompany Charlotte to her matches to support her friend. However, two other NXT Divas would begin to mock Bayley- Summer Rae & Sasha Banks, known as the BFFs.
Tomorrow, we’re going to look at what led to the dissension of the friendship between Charlotte & Bayley and how this would impact their respective careers.
